The Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication came into existence in 2000, when the Department of Specialised Languages was established, i.e., the first academic unit in Poland to systematically study specialised communication. In 2010, the Institute of Anthropocentric Culturology and Linguistics was formed from the merger of the Department of Specialised Languages and the Department of Language Theory and Language Acquisition. And in December 2013, its name was changed to the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication.

Our academic staff carry out research at 8 departments, 1 laboratory and 2 research laboratories. These studies are distinguished by their innovation and methodological sophistication in terms of the tools used, such as ophthalmoscope (eye tracker) or functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Their research findings are made public through the Institute’s own publishing initiatives as well as through external publishing houses.

At our institute, students are able to undertake full-time studies in applied linguistics with the main specialisation in terminology and specialised translation as well as an optional teaching specialisation. The specialisations are taught in four languages: English, German, Italian and Russian.
